certainly, but not one that dealt with any time technology' The Doctor consulted some more readings. 'Yes, it

appears we are in the suburban Midwest, in a state called Indiana.'

Ancient America!' gushed Vicki. 'Oh how I've always wanted to see more of it! Maybe we can see a

shopping mall, or even one of those historic coffee shop franchises: Steven smiled, remembering Vicki's

stories of the time she had previously experienced a taste of Ancient America, when the Ship had briefly

landed on the Empire State Building. Back then, her visit had been cut short, and so she had always asked to go

back. When that didn't occur, she had immersed herself in the Ship's library, refreshing herself in the

history and culture of Ancient America and believed herself to be something of an expert on the subject.

Unfortunately for her, the Doctor's control of the Ship was erratic, and although she had pleaded with him to

use the fast-return switch to get back to the Empire State Building, he had refused, claiming it was better not to

tempt time. Or fate. Or something of that nature.

`Now wait a minute, Vicki, interrupted Steven, determined to be as practical as ever. 'If the Doctor says

there's some dodgy time business out there, maybe we should save the sightseeing tour for some other time. In

truth, Steven wasn't in the mood for one of Vicki's perky exploring expeditions.

There's no reason why we can't do both, is there?' implored Vicki.

Òf course not, my child,' replied the Doctor. 'Shall we go and explore?' And, holding out his arm for Vicki, the

two of them exited the ship, Steven following.

Stephanie Luck had finally returned to her desk and sat down, her showand-tell presentation featuring the latest

trading card fad involving pastel-coloured Japanese critters finished.

Thank you, Stephanie; Colleen said. 'Who wants to be the next volunteer for show-and-tell?' Colleen

hated show-and-tell. She didn't really see much educational value in it other than to provide the rich kids with

an excuse to show off all the plastic junk their parents had spoiled them

with. Still, the kids enjoyed it, and it was a good way to start on those basic public speaking skills. And after last night's
